WHAT IS A PRIMA DONNA?

The term "Prima Donna" originated in 1782. Prima Donna is Italian for First Lady. In concert organizations, such as operas or ballets, the leading lady of the group was called the Prima Donna.

  HPD'S VALUE STATEMENTS

~Compassion: We believe in being empathetic, respectful, committed and patient to effectively serve others.

~Creativity: We foster a learning environment that is open to new ideas and invite innovation to be more successful.

~Accountability:  We believe in operating with integrity and transparency to ensure our mission is fulfilled.

~Synergy: We believe that community partnerships and diversity inclusion produces the greatest impact.

WHY HPD?

HPD is unique in specifically servicing older female homeless youth from 18 to 24 years of age.  Many comparable transitional living programs in the City of Chicago limit services to youth at the ages of 18 or 21.  Older youth are consequently forced to adult shelters, which for some is a very intimidating environment. The services provided by HPD are designed to prevent young ladies facing homelessness from engaging in destructive behaviors and to assist them in overcoming barriers to education and employment.

HPD'S BACKGROUND

In 2010, Donna Rogers founded a community based organization called, "House of Prima Donnas." Donna began volunteering in various programs that catered to young ladies and discovered her passion-shaping and improving the lives of young ladies. Donna took a leap of faith, and separated from her full time job, in Workforce Development, to pursue this calling. She later began serving young ladies at community centers, churches, afterschool programs and outreach events on a full-time volunteer basis. While assisting in this capacity, she encountered several young women that lacked direction, adequate resources, self-awareness, support and housing. These interactions led her to realize that her life's purpose was to help young ladies reach their full potential in life. As destiny called, Donna responded with a determination to help prepare the next generation of young ladies to fulfill their purpose.
